How Calculated Whisks Came To Be

Updated: Jul 15, 2019

This feels like it's going to be a long story, so grab a cup of coffee and one of my delicious desserts that you should definitely have on hand at all times, and take a seat.

Baking, actually cooking in general, means a lot more to me than just food on a plate. Growing up, life was not easy. My family struggled financially along with some other issues. From a very early age, around 5 or 6, I found solace watching my parents cook dinner. That was the most peaceful time of the day. We would all come together and just sit and eat and get along. My father started teaching me how to cook when I was 8. We would slice apples, macerate them in cinnamon and sugar, and roll out pie crust. I also learned how to fillet and fry up a mean catfish dinner. For years, that was the epitome of my cooking: fried foods and pie. Although delicious, I did notice as a teenager that I sometimes felt fatigued. That's when I learned about organic options and happened to be watching a whole lot of Cake Boss on TV. And so the idea was born; I'd cook food that would be delicious and replace the not-so-good-for-you stuff.

I started making a lot more than just pies. I started making cakes, turnovers, cookies, brownies, you name it. I loved it. It helped me deal with my anxiety by giving me something productive to focus on. Watching people enjoy my food gave me a feeling of pride I'd never felt before. After having my daughter, it was only natural that I began making the desserts for my baby shower and then for her birthday parties. People started asking for recipes. I kept learning to bake new things and impressed people more an more. When my husband proposed last year, I began looking for wedding caterers and then it dawned on me. I could do that! I could cater for peoples' weddings and events! With my husband's support, both emotionally and financially, I hit the ground running. I started with close friends, making treats and posting them on my Facebook for sale. Eventually I felt I had a large enough following, so I decided to go legit and become a Cottage Food Operation! So now I'm here, providing you with organic desserts for any occasion! :)
